In the movie Vacation one of the scenes illustrates what Americans have accepted as legitimate government.
In a scene from the movie, after picking up Ellen Griswold's aunt Edna on the way to Wally World fun park in California, the Griswold's stop at a rest area on the way to have a quick bite to eat. During the short outing the following dialogue takes place:
Rusty Griswold:Mom, my sandwich is all wet.
Ellen Griswold:They're all wet... Oh God!... The dog wet on the picnic basket.

Aunt Edna cares not. She just shrugs it off and keeps eating the tainted sandwich as if nothing happened.
