Americans And The Tainted Sandwich
In the movie Vacation one of the scenes illustrates what Americans have accepted as legitimate government.
In a scene from the movie, after picking up Ellen Griswold's aunt Edna on the way to Wally World fun park in California, the Griswold's stop at a rest area on the way to have a quick bite to eat. During the short outing the following dialogue takes place:
Rusty Griswold: Mom, my sandwich is all wet.
Ellen Griswold: They're all wet... Oh God!... The dog wet on the picnic basket.

Aunt Edna cares not. She just shrugs it off and keeps eating the tainted sandwich as if nothing happened.
The 14th Amendment that was added to the Constitution changed the political and legal scheme of American government into its current "collective" form. But no one wants to know or even seems to care; they just keep on eating this "pissed on" sandwich.*
The system of government that is in place under the 14th Amendment can only be maintained by people supporting it.
